ZCCI stepped in to close an iron-sheet shortfall and pledged cement at Makonkoto Secondary Day School — while reminding learners that a difficult start does not decide their future.
Education remains one of ZCCI's core commitments, and that commitment took a practical form during a recent visit to Makonkoto Secondary Day School. Working alongside the Makonkoto School Alumni, ZCCI came to support ongoing infrastructure work and to strengthen the networks that keep a school growing long after the builders have left.
A central message of the visit was the value of strong, active alumni structures. These networks bring former students together to mobilise resources, mentor current learners, and make sure development continues year after year. Where the alumni had already contributed 37 iron sheets toward the school's building project, ZCCI committed to cover the remaining 27 so the work could continue without delay, along with additional support in the form of cement.
Just as important was the message shared directly with the learners: your past does not define your future. Even when results have not gone as hoped, there is always room to rise again, rebuild, and pursue your dreams with renewed determination — because education shapes not only individuals, but the future of entire communities.
